SE5: EP18 Sexual Trauma and Its Impact on Our Menopause Experience

Trigger Warning: We are talking about sexual trauma and its impact on our menopause experiences. Please take care of yourself when listening.

One in 4 women worldwide report being sexually traumatised and that is probably an underestimation.

Increasingly we understand that trauma can play a significant role in the severity of our menopause symptoms, both physical and mental. Though considerable research is still required in this field.

My guest this week is Yoga Therapist and the founder of the Trauma Healing Yoga Therapy Program, Anissa Hudak

She works with women, in particular midlife women, who have been sexually traumatized to help them heal their PTSD (and other trauma-related issues) with yoga therapy. As a 2x rape survivor, She intimately understands the needs these women face and helps them navigate their healing journeys.

In our conversation we uncover

  • What is defined as sexual trauma?

  • How common it is and how it shows up in menopausal women?

  • What is the difference between yoga and yoga therapy?

  • What is the science behind it? How does it work?

  • How is yoga therapy different from other modalities?

  • How can yoga therapy help midlife women who have experienced sexual trauma?

  • How long does it take to see results?
