SE4: EP 23 Fracture Proof Your Bones

Osteoporosis is common.

80% of osteoporosis cases are in women, and the majority of those are in post-menopausal women when the rate of bone loss is at its fastest.

Research indicates that approximately 1 in 10 women over the age of 60 are affected worldwide and this is likely to increase as our global population ages.

Fractures (broken bones) cause pain, decreased mobility, and function. Osteoporotic fractures are associated with reduced quality of life and increased mortality.

The North American Menopause Society has published a position statement that fracture risk depends on factors largely other than bone density.

This week's guest is Dr John Neustadt (New-Stat), ND is the Founder and President of Nutritional Biochemistry, Inc. (NBI) a naturopathic doctor who offers simple, creative, and integrative solutions to complex health problems. He is the author of Fracture-Proof Your Bones: A Comprehensive Guide to Osteoporosis.

In our conversation, we talk about

  • Why a whole-person approach is important and how it can reverse osteoporosis.

  • What are the factors that can increase a person's risk of osteoporosis?

  • Why bone density data only gives half the story

  • How can people reduce fracture risk?

  • Discuss the importance of certain nutrients for bone and how these have led to the creation of Osteo K supplement
