SE3: EP 11 Ending the Shame of Menopause

Nobody tells you about menopause. Yet more than one billion women around the world are going through this life transition right now. Given this statistic, you might think that we’d be able to talk openly about menopause.

But this normal part of women’s lives is still stigmatized. Much of this comes from shame around menstruation and ageing. That natural processes are disgusting and the belief that once women lose their fertility and youth, they must be dried up, devoid of sexual attraction or vitality and valueless to society.

This week on the podcast I am joined by licensed mental health therapist Kyira Wackett to go deep into shame. We talk about

  • What is shame?

  • How it has been developed?

  • The role of shame resiliency

  • The impact that shame has on our thoughts, actions, connections and feelings.

  • Why is it so hard to talk about?

  • What can we do about it?

It’s time to end the shame around menopause

What people going through menopause really need is to eliminate the stigma around this stage of life so it can be discussed openly and taken seriously.
