Do You Know Enough About Menopause?
And Why Diversity Matters More Than Ever
A few weeks ago journalist Eleanor Mills wrote a pretty hard-hitting article about the lack of diversity in current menopause conversation. She was eluding to the current popular conversation that comes across as white, middle class, hetero-normative with kids. Although I agree in part there are many excellent organisations and groups raising the importance of inclusivity and diversity within the menopause conversation.
It is also important to recognize that when we talk about inclusive menopause we don’t automatically defer to race and ethnicity but broaden that definition to incorporate gender diversity, age, disability, neurodivergence, mental health status, SES and even other types of health status e.g. HIV positivity.
Last week I joined a Live panel jointly run by Diversyifing in the UK and Period to Pause to talk about menopause. I thought I would share with you the audio version of the podcast.
I would love to hear your feedback and comments on this.
Look out for upcoming podcast episodes on Thriving Thru Menopause that will be talking about perimenopause and menopause from different angles. Starting my conversation later this month on neurodivergence and menopause with Shazzy Tarby a psychotherapist from Perth who describes herself as ‘proudly neurodivergent and hormonal as hell’.
